QUARTUS
Lobby & Landing Design · New Residential Development
This residential development unfolds as a world inspired by the dreamlike imagination of Jean Cocteau, who was born in Maisons-Laffitte. More than a reference, his work becomes here a language — one of passage, symbol and poetry applied to space.
The entrance hall is conceived as a stage. Around a shared library, mirrors set at angles stretch perspectives and unsettle perception, echoing Cocteau's cherished idea that a mirror is a threshold to be crossed. The coloured glass panels of the entrance airlock accompany this movement, creating a gradual, immersive transition between outside and inside.
The materials of the ground floor, in soft and luminous tones, establish a calm and welcoming foundation. On the upper floors, the enveloping blue of the landings instills a more intimate atmosphere. The star-patterned carpet and the "moon" door handles, designed by the studio, compose an openly celestial vocabulary. Typography appears to move across the doors, while golden light fixtures cast chiaroscuro rays, like a discreet mise-en-scène of the circulation spaces.
On each level, an original illustration inspired by Cocteau's free-flowing line brings the walls to life. The corridors become a gallery, and the residential experience extends into a coherent and masterfully crafted artistic narrative.
