RESIDENTIAL - LA GRANDE MOTTE
GREEN FLAT
Interior architecture · 40m² apartment · Jean Balladur landmark

At the summit of one of La Grande Motte's iconic pyramid buildings, designed by urbanist Jean Balladur and listed as a landmark of 20th century architecture, this 40m² apartment from the 1960s feels like a suspended pavilion facing the Mediterranean. Entirely open to the landscape, it basks in uninterrupted sunlight throughout the year.

Open, liberate, let the light in

The L-shaped floor plan was opened up to free the perspectives and allow light to flow freely throughout.

The bathroom extends naturally from the bedroom, in the manner of a hotel suite. The bathtub, cast on-site in Siporex and finished with a white marble render, establishes an open and contemporary relationship between the two spaces.

Glazed on every facade save for the mineral wall of the living room, the apartment achieves an almost total transparency. Artworks were suspended from the ceiling, preserving the panoramic views while introducing an artistic presence into the space.

Material as an echo of the landscape

The living room is anchored by a textured wall of projected sand on an adhesive backing, its surface evoking the ripples traced by wind across the dunes. The dining set, designed in 1966 by Richard Schultz for Knoll, was entirely restored: sand-blasted cast aluminium frames, seats and backs re-strung with white nautical rope, in quiet resonance with the maritime surroundings.

Together, these elements compose a modern interior where architecture, material and landscape speak to one another in seamless continuity.

An apartment that is one with its site. Where looking out is already being in.
